Yerevan, 31 July 2009 – Today, G. Petrosyan, RA Minister of Labor and Social Issues, S. Mnatsakanyan, Head of the National Statistical Service, C. Vidal, UN Resident Coordinator/UNDP Resident Representative, Ahmed Maha, WFP Representative/Country Director, and Laylee Moshiri, UNICEF Representative signed a Joint Programme on 31 July 2009. The IMF has agreed to provide technical assistance with analyzing the data.

On 5 May 2009 the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Armenia, within the framework of UNDP project “Music and Public Outreach in the Regions: Highlighting the Needs of the Regions through a Cultural Lens,” addressed environmental issues in Tavush region through a concert and a public awareness campaign in the city of Dilijan. The performance was given by the National Chamber Orchestra of Armenia (NCOA), led by maestro Aram Gharabekian.

UN, IFIs Discuss with RoA Government Ways to Offset Social Impact of the Crisis
The Ministry of Labor and Social Issues, the United Nations (UN), World Bank (WB) and International Monetary Fund (IMF) offices in Armenia, organized a conference on “Social Impact of the Global Economic Crisis on Armenia.” The objective of the conference was to discuss consequences of the global economic and financial crisis and find measures to mitigate its impact on vulnerable groups. The conference brought together around 120 participants.
